St. Petersburg Police are searching for a driver accused of hitting a man riding an e-bike and fleeing the scene early Monday morning. ^[1] Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered the Florida Department of Transportation to remove automated license plate readers from state rights-of-way within 30 days. ^[2] Investigators say the woman hit the man around 1:21 AM on Monday, then lost control of the car and crashed into the Big Dan's Car Wash sign at 220 34th Street North. ^[3] The victim has non-life-threatening injuries. ^[4] St. Petersburg operates approximately 54 Flock cameras, a network that began as a 25-camera pilot in 2022 and was expanded to 54 via a five-year, $730,250 contract approved without public discussion. ^[5] The St. Petersburg City Council unanimously agreed to send the Flock contract and Police Department usage to the Public Services and Infrastructure Committee for review. ^[6] The St. Petersburg Police Department declined to answer questions from Florida Politics regarding whether their Flock cameras are located on state roads or if they must be removed. ^[7] The crash remains under active investigation and the St. Petersburg Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact them. ^[8]
