Senator Lilly Téllez of the PAN party presented a motion in the Mexican Congress urging Senator Enrique Inzunza Cázarez to request leave and resign from his parliamentary functions. ^[1] Senator Enrique Inzunza returned to the Mexican Senate after 125 days of absence on the evening of the session. ^[2] The United States government announced on April 29 that it had requested Inzunza's extradition for his alleged relationship with the Sinaloa Cartel. ^[3] Senator Lilly Téllez argued that Senator Inzunza's current constitutional immunity interferes with and conditions the investigation into his alleged criminal activities. ^[4] The motion exhorting Inzunza to resign was published in the Gaceta Parlamentaria following the ordinary session held on a Monday. ^[5] The US Government has submitted a request for provisional detention for extradition purposes regarding Inzunza to the Mexican Attorney General's Office (FGR). ^[6] Senator Enrique Inzunza Cázarez attended the ordinary session of the Senate despite accusations of drug trafficking and links to the Sinaloa Cartel presented by the United States. ^[7] The Mexican Attorney General's Office (FGR) is currently analyzing a provisional detention request for extradition presented by the Government of the United States. ^[8] The motion seeks for Inzunza to separate from his parliamentary functions so he can place himself at the disposal of competent authorities to answer accusations of links to the Sinaloa Cartel faction Los Chapitos. ^[9] Morena senators, including Ana Francis Chiquete Elizalde, Antonino Morales, and Lucía Trasviña, greeted Inzunza with hugs and enthusiastic salutations upon his return. ^[10] PAN senator Lilly Téllez protested Inzunza's return by shouting 'Out, narcos-senator!' and displaying signs accusing him of being linked to 3,000 homicides and 4,000 disappearances in Sinaloa. ^[11] Enrique Inzunza said that he no longer belonged to the Morena party’s legislative group in the Mexican Senate. ^[12]
