A Colombian court sentenced Édgar Jair Aguilar Soto, known as the 'Monstruo del Sinaí', to 43 years and 9 months in prison for the femicide of Clara Milena Álvarez Díaz. ^[1] Clara Milena Álvarez Díaz, 44, was killed on April 19, 2025, in a house in the Sinaí neighborhood of Barranquilla, suffering about ten sharp-blunt injuries to the head and face; the cause of death was severe cranioencephalic trauma classified as violent homicide. ^[2] In February 2026, a judge of the Circuit of Soledad concluded that more than 140 days had passed since the accusation was filed without the case advancing, and ordered Édgar Jair Aguilar Soto's immediate release due to expiration of terms, revoking a previous decision. ^[3] Aguilar Soto was released in February 2026 after his defense argued that the legal time limits for the process had expired. ^[4] Forensic doctors identified approximately ten short-contusion injuries on the victim's head and face, determining the cause of death as a severe traumatic brain injury from a blunt object. ^[5] The crime occurred on April 19, 2025, in the barrio Sinaí of Soledad, where the victim was subjected to a brutal beating. ^[6] The couple's daughter observed Édgar Jair Aguilar Soto leaving the house in a vehicle around 5:25 a.m. on the day of the crime, and later found Clara Milena seriously injured; her screams alerted neighbors and family. ^[7]
