Turkey's Maritime General Directorate said on 2026-09-02 that it assessed the Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu, carrying 10 crew and 4,199 tons of rolled sheet steel, to have sunk in the Sea of Marmara after it collided with the tanker ALSU and stopped responding to calls. ^[1] The dry cargo ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu sank about 35 km south of Silivri, Turkey, after colliding with the tanker ALSU at around 03:00, leaving the 10 crew members aboard unaccounted for. ^[2] The captain of the tanker ALSU said on 2026-09-02 that his ship had collided with an unknown vessel at about 03:15, according to a statement by Turkey's Maritime General Directorate. ^[3] The Istanbul Governorate said on 2026-09-02 that the Turkish-flagged ships ALSU and Tuğberk İmamoğlu collided around 03:00 approximately 18 nautical miles south of Silivri, that the ALSU, an empty tanker en route from Kocaeli to Aliağa, had no visible damage, and that no contact could be made with the Tuğberk İmamoğlu, which was carrying rolled sheet steel from İskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli, and its 10 crew. ^[4] Turkey's Maritime General Directorate reported on 2026-09-02 that an emergency beacon signal from the Tuğberk İmamoğlu was received at 03:26 via the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system and was identified as belonging to that vessel after analysis. ^[5] Search and rescue operations involve 18 floating units, 5 helicopters, 2 UAVs, 1 aircraft, and a naval ship conducting underwater searches, with the Coast Guard, Coastal Safety, Naval Forces, AFAD, and the Red Crescent participating. ^[6] The tanker ALSU, which was empty and traveling from Kocaeli to Aliağa, survived the collision without damage and is being held offshore Silivri. ^[7]
