Delta Air Lines canceled all nonstop service between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) effective Jan. 5, 2027, after the route was set to launch in December 2026. ^[1] Delta said in a statement to TPG on Aug. 31, 2026 that it 'routinely evaluates and adjusts' its network 'to best meet customer demand,' and a spokesperson apologized, saying the carrier will contact impacted customers directly with alternate travel options. ^[2] Delta still plans to operate its largest-ever Hawaii schedule this winter, including new nonstop service from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) to Maui, and will continue to fly nonstop to Honolulu from nearly all hubs except Boston and LaGuardia, plus service to Tokyo's Haneda Airport (HND). ^[3] This is the second time in three years Delta has canceled the Boston-Honolulu route; both Delta and Hawaiian Airlines operated the 5,000-mile domestic flight, once the longest U.S. domestic route, and both carriers canceled it in 2025 citing lagging demand. ^[4] During the previous operation, just 62.8% of seats were filled on average, with the best month in January 2025 reaching only 68.9% load factor. ^[5] The airline has reduced the number of departures between Boston and Honolulu by 81%, cutting the schedule from 84 planned services to just 16. ^[6] The revised schedule runs from December 19, 2026, to January 3, 2027, focusing entirely on Christmas holiday demand. ^[7]
