Historian Soledad Reyes del Villar stated in the program Una Nueva Mañana that Javiera Carrera's political participation in Chilean independence was much deeper than the episodes for which she is usually remembered, such as sewing the first national flag or singing the resbalosa. ^[1] Historian Cristóbal García-Huidobro discussed on his podcast Dato Mata Relato a little-known historical account where Lord Cochrane proposed to Bernardo O'Higgins to rescue Napoleon Bonaparte from exile on St. Helena. ^[2] Soledad Reyes del Villar noted that Javiera Carrera did not limit herself to facilitating meetings but also copied independentist proclamations by hand to distribute them and encouraged other women to become involved in the process. ^[3] Soledad Reyes del Villar stated that Javiera Carrera opened the doors of her residence to organize gatherings attended by figures such as Manuel de Salas and Camilo Henríquez, who were described by Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna as the brains of the revolution. ^[4] Soledad Reyes del Villar, author of the recently reedited book Doña Javiera y la formación del Chile republicano by Editorial Planeta, explained that her research aims to recover the voice and influence of a woman who opened her home to patriot gatherings, spread independentist ideas, and promoted the incorporation of other women into the movement. ^[5] Lord Cochrane proposed the expedition after the Chilean navy had cleared the Pacific of Spanish forces, intending to sail to St. Helena to capture Napoleon. ^[6] The proposal aimed to bring Napoleon Bonaparte to Chile to lead the Liberating Expedition to Peru. ^[7] The proposal was reportedly rejected by the Chilean government due to political tensions between O'Higgins and Cochrane regarding unpaid salaries. ^[8]
