Kroenke Sports + Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it will buy a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno in a deal expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. ^[1] Stan Kroenke, owner of the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL, reached an agreement to purchase the Los Angeles Angels baseball team, ending 23 years of administration under Arte Moreno. ^[2] Arte Moreno agreed to sell the Los Angeles Angels franchise to Stan Kroenke for a record $4 billion. ^[3] According to ESPN, the Los Angeles Angels sold for $4 billion, beating the previous MLB record of $3.9 billion set in the sale of the San Diego Padres earlier in the year. ^[4] Kroenke Sports + Entertainment is owned by Stan Kroenke and owns the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, the NBA's Denver Nuggets, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, and MLS's Colorado Rapids, in addition to Arsenal of the English Premier League. ^[5] The transaction is scheduled to be officially finalized in the first quarter of 2027 and remains pending approval from Major League Baseball. ^[6] Mike Trout, the Angels' superstar, stated that he is excited about the sale and believes the change in ownership was needed. ^[7] The Angels have not won a playoff game during Mike Trout's 16-year Major League Baseball career. ^[8] The sale agreement is expected to be finalized in early 2027. ^[9] The Los Angeles Angels are currently 53-85 heading into Tuesday and are headed for their 11th consecutive losing season. ^[10]
