Mexico recorded a trade surplus of US$26.310 billion with the United States in July 2026, according to the National Census Office. ^[1] Randy Russell, an ag lobbyist with The Russell Group, stated that a trade standoff between the U.S. and Canada is complicating efforts to update the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. ^[2] Mexico consolidated its position as both the number one supplier and the number one destination for US merchandise trade. ^[3] Mexico's exports to the United States reached US$60.550 billion in July 2026, representing a 33.6% year-over-year increase. ^[4] Canada has responded with its own tariffs on U.S. dairy and ag equipment, among other products, expected to take effect next week. ^[5] Randy Russell expressed concern that relations with the Canadian government present real challenges compared to those with the Mexican government. ^[6] The U.S. currently has a 50 percent tariff in effect on certain Canadian goods, including dairy. ^[7] Germán de la Garza de Vecchi announced the incorporation of Jaime Rodríguez Eguiarte as a new partner to help organizations avoid scrutiny from the US government. ^[8] Germán de la Garza de Vecchi, leader of Fisher Phillips Mexico, stated that the primary causes of these cases include employer interference, firings for union activity, threats, and anti-union discrimination. ^[9] Of the 48 total cases, 15 remain active, 30 have been closed, and three have required the constitution of arbitration panels. ^[10] The USMCA trade agreement has established a new landscape for labor relations in Mexico, where US government oversight of worker rights has become a critical factor for corporate operations. ^[11]
