Omar García Harfuch, Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, confirmed on a Tuesday that Luis Enrique N, alias El Güicho or R5, was killed during a federal operation in Tocumbo, Michoacán. ^[1] The Mexican Secretariat of National Defense confirmed on Tuesday morning that Luis Enrique N, alias 'El Güicho' or 'R5', was killed during the night of August 30 in an operation in Michoacan. ^[2] During the operation in Tocumbo, two criminal aggressors were killed, including Luis Enrique N, after federal and National Guard elements repelled gunfire from the criminal group. ^[3] Luis Enrique N had assumed control of the Cartel of Los Reyes following the detention of Alfonso N, alias Poncho or Quiringua, who was arrested by the Mexican Army on August 1 in Los Reyes de Salgado. ^[4] Luis Enrique N was identified by authorities as the leader of the Cartel of Los Reyes and the primary coordinator of extortion activities against avocado producers in the region. ^[5] Luis Enrique N was the leader of the Los Reyes Cartel after Alfonso N, alias 'Poncho' or 'Quiringua', was detained by the Army in Los Reyes de Salgado, Michoacan, on August 1. ^[6] The operation was executed by the Mexican Army and National Guard in coordination with the Navy, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, and the Civil Guard of Michoacan. ^[7] The operation was originally planned to detain 'R25', another leader of the Los Reyes Cartel, but 'R5' died along with an accomplice when security forces repelled their armed attacks. ^[8]
