From June 20, 2025, any phone and tablet sold in the European Union must display a repairability label graded from A (easy to repair) to E (nearly impossible to repair). ^[1] The Global Disaster Awareness and Coordination System (GDACS) is a cooperation framework between the United Nations, the European Commission and disaster managers worldwide. ^[2] By July 31, 2026, all EU member states, including Romania, must transpose the EU Right to Repair Directive into national law. ^[3] The EU legislation prohibits manufacturers from using software to block the functioning of non-original or used spare parts, a practice known as 'part pairing'. ^[4] The Right to Repair Directive obliges manufacturers to repair phones, tablets, washing machines and fridges on consumer request even after the warranty expires, if technically possible, and offers a 12-month warranty extension on repairs. ^[5] GDACS aims to improve awareness, information exchange and coordination in the first phase after major sudden-onset disasters. ^[6] The GDACS website lists earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, cyclones, volcanoes, droughts and forest fires as the disaster types covered by its search function. ^[7] The GDACS website includes a disclaimer stating that the Joint Research Centre (JRC) is not responsible for any damage or loss resulting from the use of the information presented on the site. ^[8]
