Choi Seung-ho, chairman of the Samsung Electronics Early Career Labor Union, and an unnamed union official were sent to prosecution for creating a blacklist of employees based on their union membership status. ^[1] The Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province sent six individuals to prosecution for violating the Personal Information Protection Act. ^[2] The leader of Samsung Electronics Co.'s largest labor union and a senior union official are under investigation on suspicion of stealing the personal information of about 100,000 company employees to create a union blacklist. ^[3] Samsung Group's initial labor union leader Choi Seung-ho and other union officials were remanded to prosecutors on April 4 for allegedly violating the Personal Information Protection Act. ^[4] Samsung Electronics and the union reached a tentative agreement on a wage negotiation on May 20 to end the strike, but the company and union did not submit withdrawal requests for the criminal charges. ^[5] Samsung Electronics confirmed on April 10 that a list containing department names, names, employee IDs, and union membership status for dozens of employees was delivered to a specific department chat room. ^[6] Samsung Electronics filed a complaint against the union official on April 16, accusing him of illegally collecting personal information of a large number of employees through the company's internal system approximately 20,000 times over about an hour. ^[7] The unidentified union official, who used to handle the company's internal systems, is suspected of unlawfully obtaining a file containing the names of more than 100,000 company employees and handing it over to the labor union. ^[8] Choi Seung-ho is accused of collecting personal information of over 100,000 Samsung employees to create a list identifying union membership status ahead of a potential general strike. ^[9] Samsung Electronics reported that an internal system was accessed abnormally, with one official querying employee data over 20,000 times in approximately one hour. ^[10] Four other Samsung employees were remanded to prosecutors for accessing personal data of other employees, though they did not create or distribute a separate list. ^[11]
