Centro Democrático congress members in Colombia are preparing a series of proposals to consolidate a pension counter-reform, despite the current pension reform being mostly endorsed by the Constitutional Court. ^[1] Claudia Margarita Zuleta, senator of Centro Democrático, said in an interview with Caracol Radio that under Law 2381, Colpensiones would receive about 87% of contributors, which would significantly increase the Nation's fiscal commitments to the pension system, to a point where it could become unsustainable. ^[2] The parliamentary group of Colombia's Centro Democrático party met to discuss adjustments to the current pension reform. ^[3] The counter-reform initiative aims to modify key points of the pension reform that will enter into force on April 1, 2027. ^[4] The counter-reform proposes allowing workers to choose between Colpensiones and private funds. ^[5] Former presidential candidate and senator Paloma Valencia questioned the level of subsidies received by some affiliates to the system and proposed reducing the subsidy threshold from 2.3 minimum wages. ^[6] Senator Claudia Margarita Zuleta of the Centro Democrático stated that the party seeks to establish changes to guarantee greater sustainability of the pension system and a better distribution of public resources. ^[7] The proposed adjustments include modifying the functioning of Colpensiones, focusing subsidies, and strengthening individual savings. ^[8]
