A semi-truck crashed through an overpass barrier on Martin Luther King Drive in Avondale, suspending the vehicle above Interstate 71 around 5 p.m. on Sunday. ^[1] Two people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and were rescued by first responders who strapped them into harnesses to assist them out of the truck. ^[2] An Ohio Highway Patrol officer discovered an abandoned puppy inside a cage on the side of Interstate 71 in Medina County, Ohio. ^[3] Road closures and lane restrictions were implemented, including reducing eastbound lanes of Martin Luther King Drive to one lane and closing the entrance ramp from MLK to I-71 South and the exit ramp from I-71 South to William Howard Taft Road. ^[4] The Ohio Department of Transportation confirmed that the crash occurred on the Martin Luther King Drive overpass extending across I-71 in Avondale. ^[5] The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) shared a video on social media showing the officer helping the puppy out of the cage. ^[6] The rescued puppy was transferred to the Medina County SPCA to find a permanent home. ^[7] Social media users expressed indignation regarding the abandonment and questioned the strength of animal protection laws. ^[8]
