Families of the victims have identified the two men killed by gunfire in Puerto Escondido and are requesting an investigation into the identities of the responsible parties. ^[1] Residents of Puerto Escondido, located in the Cristóbal corregimiento of Colón province, have been waiting 47 years for a definitive solution to their property title claims. ^[2] Eder S.O., a 37-year-old man, was shot to death on the night of Thursday in the Guadalupe neighborhood of Puerto Escondido. ^[3] Fernando D.C., a 26-year-old man, was shot to death on Friday, August 28, in the Benito Juárez neighborhood of Puerto Escondido, which belongs to San Pedro Mixtepec. ^[4] Unknown subjects intercepted and shot Fernando D.C. on the street Mar del Norte in the Arroyo Seco neighborhood, which borders Benito Juárez. ^[5] Community members explained that the legalization process previously recorded significant advances under earlier administrations, during which deeds were delivered in certain sectors and censuses and measurements were completed in pending areas. ^[6] Community spokespeople stated they will maintain protest actions until they receive a concrete response from the National Mortgage Bank (BHN) regarding the transfer of the lands to the founding families. ^[7] The entire legalization process was abruptly frozen without official justification. ^[8]
