American Rheinmetall announced it delivered the first of eight Lynx XM30 infantry fighting vehicle prototypes to the U.S. Army, entering the vehicle into Phase 3/4 Engineering and Manufacturing Development testing under a contract valued at approximately $764 million. ^[1] American Rheinmetall said in a statement that it delivered the first Lynx XM30 prototype to the U.S. Army, the first step in the service's effort to replace the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle. ^[2] American Rheinmetall plans to deliver the remaining seven Lynx XM30 prototypes later this year for use in operational unit training, in parallel with technical evaluations under the Army's Transformation in Contact 2.0 initiative. ^[3] General Dynamics Land Systems delivered its XM30 Wolf prototype to the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, placing both companies on a similar testing timeline to replace the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle. ^[4] The U.S. Army is expected to select a winning XM30 design in 2027. ^[5] American Rheinmetall said that seven additional Lynx XM30 prototypes are scheduled for delivery later this year, following the first prototype. ^[6] The Lynx XM30 evaluation is part of a roughly $764 million Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract intended to take the vehicle from digital design through validation. ^[7] The U.S. Army selected American Rheinmetall and General Dynamics Land Systems for the XM30 design phase in 2023, and the XM30 is built off Rheinmetall's Lynx KF41 to supersede the M2 Bradley, which entered service in the 1980s. ^[8]
