The Parque Principal Simón Bolívar in Copacabana reopened after 40 years without integral interventions, transformed into a modern public space of 10,000 square meters. ^[1] The municipality of Copacabana officially inaugurated a renovated public park after more than 40 years, with the intervention costing $12,000 million. ^[2] Mayor Johnnatan Pineda Agudelo stated on August 29 that the project marks a true revolution of progress not seen in decades in the municipality. ^[3] The project prioritized pedestrianization by converting two vehicular roads and expanded walking areas, along with universal mobility criteria including ramps and tactile paving. ^[4] The renovation project was financed entirely by the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Aburrá (AMVA) with an investment close to 12,000 million pesos. ^[5] The new park covers an area of 10,000 square meters and was opened to citizens on a Saturday evening by the Copacabana Mayor's Office and the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. ^[6] The renovation preserved 123 existing trees, including guayacanes, ceibas, gualandayes, almendros, mangos, and African tulip trees, while also planting new ornamental species. ^[7] To ensure universal access, the park was equipped with multiple access ramps, tactile paving slabs, and specialized signage for people with reduced mobility and visual impairments. ^[8]
