Turkey launched a search operation Wednesday off the coast of Istanbul after two ships collided and contact was lost with one vessel and its crew of 10, officials said. ^[1] Two merchant ships sailing under the Turkish flag collided in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul. ^[2] Turkish authorities stated on Wednesday that they have lost contact with a cargo ship and its ten crew members following a collision with another vessel in the Marmara Sea. ^[3] Contact was lost with ten crew members aboard the Tugberk Imamoglu following the collision. ^[4] The Istanbul Governor's Office reported that two commercial vessels flying the Turkish flag collided in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul. ^[5] The Istanbul Governor's Office banned Anyma's concert planned for September 12, 2026, at Ataköy Marina Arena, after the social media reactions. ^[6] Contact was lost with the crew of the Tugberk Imamoglu, flagged to Turkey, after the collision with the Turkish-flagged Alsu, which appeared undamaged, the governor's office said. ^[7] The collision took place at 3 a.m. in the Marmara Sea a little more than 20 miles south of Silivri, a western suburb of Turkey's largest city, the Istanbul governor's office said in a statement. ^[8] Search and rescue operations are under way for the missing crew. ^[9] Authorities stated that they are unable to establish contact with ten crew members on board one of the vessels. ^[10] The Istanbul governor's office reported the collision incident to Reuters. ^[11] Officials from the Turkish Maritime Directorate stated that the cargo ship Tugberk Imamoglu is presumed to have sunk because it did not respond to communications. ^[12]
