A group of retired teachers from the Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Oaxaca blocked Avenida Universidad in the capital of Oaxaca to protest unpaid liquidations. ^[1] Retired workers from the Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Oaxaca (COBAO) expanded a total blockade on University Avenue in Oaxaca City due to a lack of agreements with state authorities and institutional leadership. ^[2] The protesters are demanding the liquidation of withheld severance payments (finiquitos) corresponding to the years 2024, 2025, and 2026. ^[3] The affected group consists of nearly one hundred retired workers who left the institution within the last three years. ^[4] The retired workers are demanding payment of liquidations that were owed to them after they concluded their labor relationship with the institution. ^[5] Approximately 100 retired workers are affected by the lack of these economic resources. ^[6] The protesters stated that the withheld severance amounts are part of the institutional budget and questioned why their benefits are denied after years of service. ^[7] The protesters maintain their demand to establish a specific date for payment and have directly pointed to the general director of the Colegio de Bachilleres for the lack of progress. ^[8]
