Central Railway officials stated on Tuesday that a 55-year-old passenger was deboarded from a long-distance train and a police case was registered against him for allegedly lighting a diya on his berth while performing prayers. ^[1] Central Railway booked a 55-year-old passenger for lighting a brass diya on a reserved berth inside a moving train. ^[2] A case was registered against the passenger on Tuesday under Sections 153 and 145(B) of the Railways Act, 1989, which provide for imprisonment of up to five years for acts endangering safety or carrying inflammable articles. ^[3] A matchbox, a brass diya, and a steel container were recovered from the passenger, who was deboarded at Bhusaval station for further action. ^[4] The incident took place aboard Train No. 12782 (Hazrat Nizamuddin-Mysuru Express) on August 31, where the passenger, identified as Gariba of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, lit a diya on berth No. 17. ^[5] The incident occurred on August 31 on the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Mysuru Express when the passenger was performing evening prayers in coach A-1. ^[6] A matchbox, a brass diya, and a steel container were recovered from the berth. ^[7] On-duty ticket checking staff member Raman Kumar Sharma reported the incident to Commercial Control in Bhusaval. ^[8]
