Anthropic announced on Tuesday the launch of Enterprise Frontier Safeguards, a system combining zero data retention privacy with safeguards designed to detect misuse of its Claude AI models. [^1]

OpenAI stated on 2026-09-01 that its unreleased Astra model reached the 'critical' cybersecurity capability threshold in its Preparedness Framework, marking the first time any of its models has been evaluated at that level in its three domains (biological/chemical, cybersecurity, and AI self-improvement). [^2]

Anthropic announced the release of Fable 5.1, a new artificial intelligence model designed for coding and knowledge work. [^3]

Anthropic developed the system with more than 100 customers across financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, telecom, law, retail, and the public sector. [^4]

Anthropic said it will roll out the Enterprise Frontier Safeguards feature to customers in phases starting later this fall. [^5]

The new solution allows customers to store data in their own cloud infrastructure rather than on Anthropic's systems. [^6]

OpenAI said in the same blog post that Astra will be 'available soon' but that its most advanced cybersecurity skills will be reserved for select testing partners in the interest of public safety. [^7]

OpenAI said it has implemented stronger safeguards for Astra, including training the model to more reliably refuse harmful cyber requests, additional protections against misuse, and monitoring that can stop potentially unauthorized activity. [^8]

OpenAI's Aug. 7 blog post defined the Critical cybersecurity threshold as a model that can identify and develop functional zero-day exploits of all severity levels in many hardened real-world critical systems without human intervention, or devise and execute end-to-end novel strategies for cyberattacks against hardened targets given only a high-level desired goal. [^9]

Anthropic stated that Fable 5.1 sets new standards for coding, knowledge work, and long-running problem-solving tasks. [^10]

The company claims that Fable 5.1 can fix the root causes of software issues. [^11]

The announcement highlights advancements in AI capabilities for complex software development environments. [^12]
