Mexican security forces killed Luis Enrique Barragán Chávez, alias 'R5', the leader of the Los Reyes Cartel, in an operation in the municipality of Tocumbo on the night of August 30. ^[1] Omar García Harfuch, head of the Mexican Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), confirmed the death of Luis Enrique Barragán Chávez, alias R5, leader of the Los Reyes Cartel. ^[2] An armed attack resulted in the death of both Barragán and his accomplice, and authorities seized two automatic rifles, cartridges, loaders of various calibers, and a quad bike. ^[3] Intelligence from the XII Military Region identified Barragán's location in the ranchería 'Rodeo del Pinal' in the hills of the municipality of Los Reyes de Salgado. ^[4] The operation was conducted by the Mexican Army, the National Defense Secretariat (Defensa), the National Guard (GN), and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). ^[5] Security forces, including the Mexican Army, National Guard, and Michoacán Civil Guard, repelled an armed aggression by the target, leading to an engagement where Barragán Chávez and one accomplice lost their lives. ^[6] The United States Department of State offered a reward of up to 3 million dollars for information leading to the capture of Barragán Chávez. ^[7]
