Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other world leaders signed the joint Declaration at the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on 1 September 2026. ^[1] Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on 2026-09-01 that Iran is ready to return to the June ceasefire agreement with the United States if Washington honors its commitments, according to the Iranian presidency's website. ^[2] SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) member states held a meeting of heads of state in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, during which they issued a joint statement titled the 'Bishkek Declaration'. ^[3] SCO member states declared in the 'Bishkek Declaration' that they consider 'double standards' in the fight against terrorism 'unacceptable'. ^[4] The 26th SCO Summit brought together key Eurasian leaders, including Modi, Xi, Putin and Pezeshkian, for discussions on regional security, economic cooperation and multilateral engagement. ^[5] Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said he told Ilham Aliyev about Kazakhstan's large-scale political reforms and the results of the first elections to the unicameral Kuratai. ^[6] The press service of the President of Kazakhstan said that Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. ^[7] Chinese President Xi Jinping told Russian President Vladimir Putin at the SCO summit in Bishkek that bilateral ties have grown 'more solid' despite increased 'uncertainty and unpredictability in the international order.' ^[8] Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian media that Putin and Xi largely discussed economic relations and only touched on the Ukraine war 'in passing.' ^[9] SCO member states urged the international community to intensify the fight against terrorism, including preventing the cross-border movement of terrorists from one country to another. ^[10] The 'Bishkek Declaration' expresses deep concern over ongoing developments in West Asia. ^[11] Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the critical element for the success of the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan cooperation is the political will of their heads of state. ^[12]
