President Claudia Sheinbaum renewed a voluntary agreement with gas station owners on Monday to cap fuel prices in Mexico to combat inflation and high living costs. ^[1] Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum formalized a six-month renewal of the voluntary fuel price agreement with gasoline station owners, a measure first announced on 2025-08-20, maintaining maximum prices for regular gasoline and diesel. ^[2] Senator Carlos Lomelí Bolaños participated in the fifth plenary meeting of the Morena parliamentary group on August 30 to prepare for the upcoming ordinary legislative session. ^[3] President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico presented her second government report on 2026-07-01, 23 months into her administration, characterizing the economy as resilient despite international challenges. ^[4] According to the Government of Mexico, as of July, 1,721 stations continued to sell diesel at prices significantly higher than the market average. ^[5] President Claudia Sheinbaum stated via social media that the renewed agreement aims to support the economy and the well-being of Mexican families. ^[6] Mexico's Secretariat of Energy (SENER) said the renewed voluntary agreement requires regular gasoline to be sold below 24 pesos per liter and diesel below 27 pesos per liter. ^[7] Mexico's Secretariat of Finance reported that IEPS tax revenue on gasoline and diesel from January to July totaled 246,871 million pesos, down 2.1% in real terms year-on-year, with July's 26,982 million pesos the lowest monthly collection since March 2025. ^[8] Lomelí Bolaños stated that the needs of Jalisco will be represented in the proposals and discussions of the next ordinary legislative period. ^[9] The working tables were coordinated by Senator Ignacio Mier Velazco and included the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, the Secretary of Welfare, Leticia Ramírez Amaya, the Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, and the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Édgar Amador Zamora. ^[10] Fiscal revenue reached a record of 6.46 trillion pesos in 2025, an increase of 487 billion pesos compared to 2024, achieved without raising taxes. ^[11] President Sheinbaum stated that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 1.4% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the previous quarter and 1.9% annually. ^[12]
