Merchants and residents in Baca, Mexico, are on alert after counterfeit 500-peso bills were detected in circulation. ^[1] Baca is a new restaurant concept installed in the Mercado de Magdalena in Lima, Peru, founded by Ricardo Martins and Hans Baca. ^[2] Pedro Tec discovered the fraud later when he attempted to use the change at another business and found the counterfeit bill was visibly smaller than a genuine one. ^[3] Pedro Tec, a gas station owner in Baca, was defrauded by an unidentified man who used a fake 500-peso bill to purchase fuel. ^[4] Baca offers artisanal meat sandwiches using premium cuts that undergo a preparation process taking between two and three days, including dry curing for some pieces. ^[5] During the first weeks, the picaña and asado sold out quickly, while the adobo became a favorite on weekends. ^[6] The founders, Ricardo Martins and Hans Baca, developed the Baca concept over a year of testing to convert their hobby of preparing meat at home into a business. ^[7] Pedro Tec reported the incident to the Municipal Police at the City Hall and urged business owners to carefully inspect cash received. ^[8]
