The Constitutional, Regulatory, and Foreign Relations Committee of the Chamber of Deputies in Peru approved by majority to declare itself in permanent session on August 31, 2026, to evaluate a bill delegating legislative powers to the Executive Power. ^[1] Lima Mayor Renzo Reggiardo demanded on an unspecified date in 2026 that the Peruvian Congress accelerate the approval of legislative powers requested by the Executive branch. ^[2] Committee members agreed that the request for delegation of powers must be subjected to technical and parliamentary analysis to determine the matters to be evaluated. ^[3] The permanent session measure allows the working group to develop the analysis of the proposal with speed and convene necessary sessions to address its scope. ^[4] Renzo Reggiardo warned lawmakers that they would be held responsible if they continue to delay the approval of necessary legislative powers to reduce criminal violence. ^[5] The Constitutional Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, chaired by Giannina Avendaño Vilca, voted 18 to 2 to declare itself in permanent session to evaluate the executive's request. ^[6] The initiative presented to the Parliament on August 28, 2026, contains 66 proposals oriented toward public management and security. ^[7] Around 70 requests related to the incorporation and formation of parliamentary leagues have been received, necessitating the establishment of criteria and procedures for their proper functioning. ^[8]
