American Rheinmetall said in a statement that it delivered the first Lynx XM30 prototype to the U.S. Army, the first step in the service's effort to replace the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle. ^[1] American Rheinmetall delivered the first of eight Lynx XM30 combat vehicle prototypes to the U.S. Army on an unspecified date in 2026. ^[2] American Rheinmetall said that seven additional Lynx XM30 prototypes are scheduled for delivery later this year, following the first prototype. ^[3] The Lynx XM30 evaluation is part of a roughly $764 million Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract intended to take the vehicle from digital design through validation. ^[4] The U.S. Army selected American Rheinmetall and General Dynamics Land Systems for the XM30 design phase in 2023, and the XM30 is built off Rheinmetall's Lynx KF41 to supersede the M2 Bradley, which entered service in the 1980s. ^[5] The Lynx XM30 features a hybrid-electric powertrain intended to improve power generation and battlefield mobility while supporting the electrical demands of modern onboard systems. ^[6] The Lynx XM30 program aims to replace the aging M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle with a more digitally connected and adaptable platform. ^[7] The prototype will enter government-led developmental and performance testing under a Phase 3/4 Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract valued at approximately $764 million. ^[8]
