The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Thursday that Boeing Co. was awarded a $31,505,637 modification to support P-8A aircraft platform sustainment for the U.S. Navy and allied governments. ^[1] The South Korean government is reportedly reviewing plans to deploy naval assets, including maritime patrol aircraft and supply ships, to the Strait of Hormuz following requests from the United States. ^[2] The modification exercises options for P-8A platform sustainment support, support equipment maintenance, engineering investigations, and integrated maintenance augmentation support. ^[3] The Navy will obligate $8,576,380 in fiscal 2024 aircraft procurement funds and $8,922,792 in fiscal 2026 operations and maintenance funds at the time of award. ^[4] The work covers the Navy and the governments of Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and Germany. ^[5] The government is currently drafting a consent bill to be submitted to the National Assembly, with analysts predicting it could be submitted this month. ^[6] The P-8A aircraft are intended to perform surveillance and tracking missions, while the Soyang ship is designated to provide fuel and ammunition supplies to operating vessels. ^[7] The P-8A maritime patrol aircraft and the Soyang supply ship are among the specific assets being considered for deployment to the Strait of Hormuz. ^[8]
