Chinese state media reported on Tuesday that solar capacity surpassed coal capacity in July, becoming the primary source of installed electricity generation capacity in China. ^[1] The United States imposed new tariffs of up to 100 percent on drones and certain drone components. ^[2] Coal's share of electricity generation fell below 50% for the first time, according to the Chinese energy administration. ^[3] Solar energy generation remains significantly lower than coal generation because solar power cannot produce electricity when the sun is not shining. ^[4] Wind and solar energy combined represented 24.6% of China's energy mix in the first half of the year, while coal accounted for 49.7%. ^[5] The tariffs are intended to reduce US dependence on imports in the drone industry. ^[6] Russian blogger Elizaveta Savtikhina, who lives in China, reported discovering mold in her home which she found surprising. ^[7] Savtikhina stated that she found mold on her pillowcases and mattress due to high humidity levels in the house and outside. ^[8] Savtikhina noted that mold also appeared in the corners of the hallway due to high humidity. ^[9] The blogger attempted to clean the mold off her mattress using vinegar but was unsuccessful in removing it. ^[10]
