The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) of Mexico presented the 'ABC de las emociones' program, which will be applied in secondary and preparatory schools to help students identify and express their emotions. ^[1] President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on 2027-01-01 that the Mexican federal government is preparing three new textbooks for public schools to be delivered starting in 2027. ^[2] The Mexican Ministry of Public Education (SEP) reported that only 10% of teachers achieved a high level of appropriation (80% to 100%) of the Nueva Escuela Mexicana (NEM) components. ^[3] Mario Delgado reported that approximately 28 million Mexican students in basic and upper secondary education are returning to classes, joined by more than 1.6 million teachers and operating in over 250 existent schools across the country. ^[4] The program was announced by SEP Secretary Mario Delgado during the La Mañanera del Pueblo press conference led by Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum. ^[5] During the presentation of her Second Government Report, Sheinbaum specified that the new textbooks are directed at basic education and focus on the history of Mexico, mathematics, and literacy. ^[6] Sheinbaum reported that 154 million free textbooks from the Nueva Escuela Mexicana have been distributed to date. ^[7] A diagnostic survey conducted by the SEP involved 219,307 teachers and principals across the country to assess their understanding of the new educational model. ^[8] According to the strategy, 30% of teachers did not participate in any training process. ^[9] Nearly 60% of teachers indicated a need to deepen their knowledge of synthetic programs, which serve as a starting point rather than a rigid planning tool in the NEM. ^[10] The new textbooks will be distributed for free to all public primary and secondary schools in Mexico starting in mid-2027. ^[11] Mario Delgado explained that the program is part of the Nueva Escuela Mexicana model, integrating the entire educational community into emotional development activities. ^[12]
