The Hindu festival of Janmashtami, celebrating Lord Krishna's 5,253rd birthday, is being observed on September 4, 2026. ^[1] Krishna Janmashtami 2026 will be observed on September 4, 2026, marking the 5,252nd birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. ^[2] Krishna Janmashtami, also called Gokulashtami, is an important festival in the Hindu calendar celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. ^[3] Curators Aditi Agarwal and Manleen Kaur created bansuri-shaped chocolates for Janmashtami, stating that the chocolates are designed to make learning about Indian culture joyful, engaging, and fun for children, inspired by Krishna's love for maakhan. ^[4] Mumbai-based baker Juhi Pahwa makes a matki phod cake as prashad for Janmashtami, using chocolate sweetened with dates instead of chemical sweeteners, and also a banana sweetened cake with Belgian chocolate ganache, vanilla frosting, and cookie butter, with whipped coconut yoghurt as the malai, which she says is suitable for children as young as six months who have started solid foods. ^[5] Mumbai-based cake artist Monica Singh created a Janmashtami cake depicting baby Krishna, Vasudev carrying Krishna on his head to Vrindavan, Sheshnag, and traditional colors to tell the story of Krishna's arrival. ^[6] Pune-based pastry chef and chocolatier Ashmita Muchhal created a Matki phod dessert for Janmashtami with a handcrafted white chocolate matki that is broken open to reveal a choice of rasmalai cake, rose pistachio cake, panchamrut cake, or mawa dry fruit cake. ^[7]
