Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov announced the launch of a new military technology company with Palantir CEO Alex Karp set to become its lead investor. ^[1] Sergey Poletaev, a military analyst and co-founder of the project 'Watford', told Lenta.ru that the Ukrainian Armed Forces (VСУ) no longer have the mass, fire support, or air assets required to develop the offensive attempted by former commander Aleksandr Syrsky in the spring and summer. ^[2] Mikhail Fedorov was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in mid-July 2024 amid reported tensions with then-commander-in-chief Aleksandr Syrsky. ^[3] Palantir CEO Alex Karp stated that he and Fedorov have worked together for half a decade and that the new company will define the world by bringing knowledge about the art of war to allied countries. ^[4] According to Poletaev, Ukrainian assault units could rely only on drones because they lacked heavy artillery and air support. ^[5] Poletaev stated that the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to copy the Russian tactic of infiltration using small assault groups intended to secure positions and then expand the zone of control. ^[6] The analyst noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces lacked experience in assault actions and are currently facing a shortage of personnel. ^[7] Critics note that the uptick in long-range strikes against Russia during Fedorov's tenure was primarily built upon the expansion of drone production in Western Europe secured under his predecessors. ^[8]
