A jury in Las Vegas found Duane 'Keffe D' Davis guilty of orchestrating the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur on Monday. ^[1] Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told jurors that Davis acquired a gun and went hunting for Tupac Shakur and Marion 'Suge' Knight after men beat up Davis' nephew earlier that night. ^[2] Duane 'Keffe D' Davis, 63, was convicted of a single count of murder with a deadly weapon. ^[3] The jury deliberated for less than three hours after a week-long trial in Las Vegas. ^[4] Prosecutors argued that Davis was criminally responsible because he provided the gun and ordered the attack, rather than necessarily pulling the trigger himself. ^[5] Prosecutor Binu Palal told the jury that Davis obtained a weapon and went on a hunt for Tupac Shakur and Death Row Records co-founder Marion 'Suge' Knight after both were beaten by Davis's nephew that same night. ^[6] Prosecutors argued that although Davis did not pull the trigger, evidence showed he ordered the attack as the leader of a powerful gang whose younger members, including his nephew, obeyed his orders. ^[7] Davis was the only one alive among the four men who were in the Cadillac at the time of the shooting, according to prosecutors, and the case went cold until Davis made public statements about his involvement, saying he was in the Cadillac and gave the gun to others in the back seat, calling the shooting retaliation for the beating of his nephew. ^[8] Prosecutors contended that Davis, although not the shooter, ordered the attack by using his influence as a senior gang member over the younger men in the white Cadillac, including his nephew. ^[9] Tupac Shakur, widely regarded as one of the most influential rappers in music history, was shot on 1996-09-07 in Las Vegas when a white Cadillac stopped alongside his vehicle at a traffic signal and gunfire erupted; he died on 1996-09-13, and Marion 'Suge' Knight was also injured but survived. ^[10]
