The North Park Observation Tower in Pittsburgh, originally built in 1937, will reopen to the public after being closed for more than 30 years. ^[1] Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park is located in the suburb of Wildwood on the eastern edge of Missouri, approximately 30 miles from downtown St. Louis. ^[2] The restoration includes targeted metal repairs, updating the 154-step spiral staircase, and sandblasting the tower to match its original 1937 appearance. ^[3] The restoration project has a budget of approximately $3.2 million and is being led by the Allegheny County Parks Foundation and local county officials. ^[4] Work on the tower began in 2026, with landscaping and site improvements expected to continue through 2027 before the public reopening. ^[5] The campground has 75 sites to rent, with some offering electric plugs and full water, sewer, and electric hookups. ^[6] The park opened to the public in the late 1930s and was named after Dr. Edmund A. Babler, a well-known St. Louis surgeon whose brothers donated the land to the state in his memory. ^[7] The park spans more than 2,400 acres and features rolling hills, dense woodlands, deep valleys, and winding creeks near the Missouri River. ^[8]
