Barranquilla Mayor Alejandro Char confirmed on an unspecified date that Avenue Shakira (Calle 72) is now ready for vehicular traffic following urban transformation works executed between Carrera 38 and 60. ^[1] Barranquilla Mayor Alejandro Char confirmed on social media that the renovated Avenida Shakira, previously known as Calle 72, is now open to pedestrians and drivers. ^[2] The Avenue Shakira intervention covered a distance of more than two kilometers and included the undergrounding of telecommunications networks, the unification of infrastructure for operators, the intervention of 11 poles, the removal of three structures, and the elimination of more than 100 meters of cable. ^[3] The project involved the reconstruction of public space with tactile tiles, the demolition of the central divider, the installation of a new public lighting system, and the laying of water and sewage pipes. ^[4] Mayor Alejandro Char stated that the main objective of the work was to return prominence to pedestrians in this important sector of Barranquilla. ^[5] The renovation project covers more than three kilometers of sidewalks, green zones, and parking areas distributed along the corridor between Carrera 38 and Carrera 60. ^[6] Mayor Alejandro Char announced that the installation of complementary elements in honor of the Barranquilla artist Shakira will begin soon. ^[7] Public art elements inspired by Shakira have been installed at intersections with Carrera 43, 44, and 46, with designs created by artists from the District School of Art and Popular Traditions. ^[8]
