Universidad Católica Sedes Sapientiae (UCSS), a Peruvian Catholic university, announced on 2026-09-01 plans to open three new campuses in Callao, Ventanilla and Huaraz over the next three years, as part of an expansion strategy executed jointly with the Catholic Church and its religious congregations and dioceses. ^[1] The author joined an all-women trekking team organized by GirlsTrek, an Australian tour company, for an adventure on the Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru. ^[2] In June 2026, UCSS signed an agreement with the Diocese of Huaraz to develop an academic project in Huaraz, the city where a new branch is now announced. ^[3] José Enrique Aguilar, academic vice-rector (vicerrector académico) of UCSS, said the university is 'a university of the peripheries' that targets areas lacking educational supply, offering professional education with values and at an accessible cost. ^[4] The author's sister, Lisa Marshall, works as a guide for GirlsTrek and recommended the high-altitude trek to the author. ^[5] The Cordillera Huayhuash circuit involved eight days of high-altitude trekking with passes exceeding 4,800m, including Trapecio Pass at over 5,000m. ^[6] The trek began on July 5 with 13 women gathering in Lima, Peru, for a two-week journey that included a historical tour of the city. ^[7] UCSS operates a program of subsidies of varying coverage, scholarships and economic aid as mechanisms to keep its educational offering accessible. ^[8]
