The August Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer survey reported that farmer sentiment rose from 126 in July to 135 in August. ^[1] Researchers at Purdue University presented the PUR-1 Cyber-Physical Digital Twin, a system designed to improve the operational flexibility and responsiveness of nuclear systems. ^[2] Optimism about export prospects over the next five years improved to 140, reaching the highest level since December 2025. ^[3] The PUR-1 Digital Twin integrates multiple models, including data-driven and physics-based approaches such as neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, and point kinetics, to provide closed-loop explainable diagnostics and predictive control. ^[4] The system maintains two-way synchronization with the physical facility at a time constant less than its operational cycle to support real-time dynamic processing of operational data. ^[5] In the survey of 402 U.S. farmers conducted August 10-14, 2026, 28 percent expected their operations to be financially better off a year later and 24 percent expected worse conditions, marking the first time since June 2025 that more farmers expected improvement than decline. ^[6] The Farm Capital Investment Index fell 5 points to 45 in August 2026, showing farmers remained reluctant to invest in machinery, buildings and other capital assets despite improved sentiment. ^[7] The Short-Term Farmland Value Expectations Index rose 8 points to 127 in August 2026, and 65 percent of farmers rated farmland a good investment, 17 percent a medium investment, and 18 percent a poor investment. ^[8] The study lays the groundwork for further development and experimental demonstration of digital twin-enabled functionalities in real-world facilities. ^[9]
