Greek Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos is traveling to Ireland on Tuesday to take part in the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers known as the Gymnich. ^[1] Politico reported on September 1 that European Union countries have yet to respond to President Vladimir Zelensky's request to accelerate the disbursement of funding to Kiev. ^[2] German diplomat Dirk Schuebel has taken office as the special representative of the European Union in Pristina, serving as the head of the EU Office in Pristina. ^[3] Discussions at the meeting will focus on Russia's continuing aggression against Ukraine. ^[4] Discussions will address strengthening the effectiveness, impact and flexibility of the EU's external action amid the evolving geopolitical environment. ^[5] After Hungary and Slovakia lifted their vetoes, the Council of the European Union completed the approval process for the 90 billion euro joint EU loan. ^[6] President Vladimir Zelensky called on the European Union bloc to speed up the transfer of a portion of a loan to Kiev. ^[7] The funding package was approved at an EU summit in December 2025 to provide Kiev with 60 billion euros for weapons and 30 billion euros for budgetary needs in 2026-2027. ^[8] Dirk Schuebel emphasized the need for the rapid formation of functional institutions capable of implementing necessary reforms. ^[9] Dirk Schuebel stated that he will support the European future of Pristina and constructive participation in the dialogue with Belgrade, which is mediated by the EU. ^[10] The informal format gives EU foreign ministers an opportunity for more strategic discussions on current international issues and the broader direction of the bloc's foreign and security policy. ^[11]
