British Columbia officials confirmed on Tuesday that the province overestimated its forecasted natural gas revenues by approximately $1.46 billion over five fiscal years due to human errors. ^[1] The Minister of Energy, Natural Resources and Mines, the Honourable Tim Hodgson, and the Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Economic Development Canada for the Pacific, the Honourable Gregor Robertson, will attend the inauguration of an electrical infrastructure project. ^[2] Combined, correcting the errors amounted to an average annual decrease in expected revenues of $292-million from this fiscal year to the one starting in 2030. ^[3] Energy Minister Adrian Dix stated that the most significant error was a 44-cent overstatement in the forecasted per-gigajoule price of natural gas for the current fiscal year, caused by incorrectly assuming figures were in U.S. dollars when they were in Canadian dollars. ^[4] The correction of the currency conversion error resulted in a price decrease of 44 cents per gigajoule of natural gas in B.C.'s forecasting for 2026-2027. ^[5] The event will take place on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:30 AM (HR). ^[6] The Honourable David Eby, Premier of British Columbia, and the Honourable Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, will also attend the event. ^[7] The event is described as a milestone on the path to energy transition. ^[8]
