On September 4, 2026, Nepalese authorities successfully rescued two survivors from the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower plant tunnel nine days after a massive landslide and glacier collapse killed over 1,200 people. ^[1] Two workers were rescued from the Bagmati Province Trishuli 3A hydroelectric power plant tunnel nine days after a massive flood trapped them. ^[2] According to an aide to the Office of the Minister of Energy, Kavir Maharjan is unable to move his hands or feet, while Sanjay Sah's injuries are not critical. ^[3] On August 26, 2026, a glacier collapsed in the upper reaches of the Trishuli River, burying the valley with ice, rocks, and mud, displacing tens of thousands of people. ^[4] The two rescued workers were identified as Sanjay Sah, a section chief, and Kavir Maharjan, a supervisor, at the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower plant tunnel. ^[5] Nepali authorities stated that over 900 workers, including foreigners, are missing, with more than 270 rescued and at least 557 still missing. ^[6] The Nepali Prime Minister's Office confirmed that the other rescued worker, Kavir Maharjan, is in critical condition and both are receiving treatment at a military hospital in Kathmandu. ^[7]
