Abelardo De La Espriella announced the seizure of 3.731 kilograms of marijuana in the Colombian Amazonia. ^[1] Experts warn that high temperatures between 31 and 38 °C will maintain a real risk of forest fires in several Amazonian municipalities, even without a strong generalized rainfall deficit. ^[2] The El Niño phenomenon began in Colombia three months earlier than expected, in June, and is forecast to strengthen during the second half of 2026. ^[3] The five main impacts identified are reduced rainfall affecting river navigation and fishing, increased fire risk, stress on biodiversity threatening indigenous food security, community isolation due to low river levels, and a rise in epidemics such as malaria, dengue, zika, and chikungunya. ^[4] Abelardo De La Espriella stated that the seized 3.7 tons of drugs would not reach the streets nor generate money to fund criminal organizations. ^[5] Abelardo De La Espriella warned that the Colombian Amazon will not be a corridor or sanctuary for drug trafficking. ^[6] The seizure involved a cargo of more than 3.7 tons of marijuana located during two operations developed by the Colombian National Navy. ^[7] The dry season is expected to concentrate between December of the current year and February 2027. ^[8]
