The Colombian Constitutional Court ordered the National Protection Unit (UNP) to offer public apologies to the family of former Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay. ^[1] The Court ruled that Augusto Rodríguez, the former director of the UNP, exceeded his official limits by making public statements about the security scheme of the late senator and matters related to his family. ^[2] The Colombian Constitutional Court ruled that UNP Director Augusto Rodríguez violated his special duties by making unjustified public disclosures regarding the security scheme of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay. ^[3] The court ruled that Augusto Rodriguez, the former director of the UNP during the government of President Gustavo Petro, exceeded the limits of freedom of expression by disclosing confidential aspects of the protection detail assigned to Uribe Turbay. ^[4] Augusto Rodríguez's public statements questioned aspects related to the security scheme established for Miguel Uribe Turbay. ^[5] Miguel Uribe Turbay was assassinated during a political event in the Modelia neighborhood of Bogotá in June 2025. ^[6] The court concluded that Rodríguez's statements unjustifiably exposed information reserved for internal family decisions and violated the special duties of his official discourse. ^[7] The UNP was ordered to hold a nationally broadcast press conference to apologize and has one month to update internal protocols regarding the confidentiality of protection details. ^[8] Uribe Turbay was shot by a hitman on June 7, 2025, at El Golfito Park in Bogota during a political event and died two months later. ^[9]
