Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader and Honduran President Nasry Asfura agreed to strengthen bilateral relations following two days of meetings during Asfura's official visit to the Dominican Republic. ^[1] President Claudia Sheinbaum stated during her Second Government Report that Mexico achieved its best participation in history at the Central American and Caribbean Games. ^[2] President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted historic results achieved by the national sport in high-performance areas during the presentation of her Second Government Report at the National Palace on September 1, 2026. ^[3] Both presidents agreed to maintain dialogue and turn their positive political relationship into concrete cooperation. ^[4] President Luis Abinader highlighted growing trade between both countries and ongoing intelligence cooperation against organized crime through the Shield of the Americas. ^[5] The leaders discussed opportunities to expand trade, investment, connectivity, tourism, culture, and agriculture while addressing regional challenges including security, migration, democracy, sargassum, and Haiti. ^[6] Sheinbaum noted that Mexican athletes have secured first-place finishes in world championships in diving, cycling, rowing, and archery. ^[7] The government allocated more than one billion pesos to support high-performance athletes through scholarships, nutrition, housing, camps, medical care, and international competition participation. ^[8] According to the National Sports Council (Conade), President Sheinbaum noted that Mexico is living a historic moment in sports by recording its best participation in history at the Central American and Caribbean Games. ^[9] The President stated that these achievements are the result of the talent, discipline, and effort of athletes, accompanied by permanent support from the Mexican State to strengthen their preparation and development. ^[10]
