The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) endorsed the G-100 opposition group on Tuesday to end the twelve-year reign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by May 29, 2027. ^[1] A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria, led by former Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Turaki, endorsed a proposal to field a single presidential candidate against President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election. ^[2] Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the party's Interim National Working Committee, said the decision was informed by Nigerians groaning under economic hardship and the repressive Bola Tinubu APC-led Federal Government. ^[3] The G-100 group is composed of 100 opposition stalwarts driving a process to create an all-opposition front to challenge the incumbent APC candidate in the 2027 general elections. ^[4] Representatives from six opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Turaki-led PDP, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), attended a summit in Abuja on Monday. ^[5] The attending parties agreed to establish standing committees and working groups to develop proposals on opposition unity, a national reform programme, and a roadmap for a common presidential candidate. ^[6] The faction's National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, issued a statement on Tuesday asserting that presenting a single candidate is necessary to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). ^[7] The PDP declared that any result from this process will offer Nigerians credible leadership capable of alleviating skyrocketing poverty and rising insecurity in the country. ^[8]
