Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Unal Ustel announced on Wednesday that a preliminary report detailing the findings of the investigation into the sinking of a passenger ferry off the coast of Kyrenia will be published as soon as possible. ^[1] Prime Minister Unal Ustel said in comments reported by the Cypriot newspaper Kibris that the findings bring the total confirmed deaths to 12, with 16 people still missing. ^[2] Unal Ustel, the leader of the northern territory of Cyprus, said on Friday that the remains of two more people were recovered from the wreck of a passenger ferry that sank off the coast of Cyprus. ^[3] A total of nine people, including the ferry's captain Mustafa Oz and seven members of its crew, remain in custody after having been arrested in the accident's aftermath. ^[4] Ustel promised that technical examinations of the disaster and the ferry itself will be conducted in due course and that all findings will be meticulously evaluated. ^[5] Ustel vowed that if there is any negligence, fault, or liability regardless of the source, it will be brought to light and that all state resources have been mobilized to ensure the investigation is conducted thoroughly. ^[6] The Filo Jet was carrying 267 passengers and crew when it capsized and sank after leaving Kyrenia, a port in northern Cyprus, for Tasucu, Turkey, on Sunday afternoon. ^[7] Two Turkish navy search and rescue vessels joined the search, carrying submersible vessels able to reach the ferry wreckage some 550 meters (1,804 feet) below the surface. ^[8]
