Preschool and primary school children in Guajes de Ayala, Coyuca de Catalán, Guerrero, requested that state authorities assign teachers to their schools on September 4, 2026. ^[1] Children and adolescents in the community of El Pescado, in the Sierra de Coyuca de Catalán, Guerrero, could not begin the school cycle due to violence. ^[2] Classes in the region were suspended in October 2025 due to attacks perpetrated by suspected members of the criminal group La Familia Michoacana. ^[3] Local authorities demanded the immediate and permanent assignment of teachers to cover the neglected groups, citing the current operational control of armed forces. ^[4] Local authorities stated that three schools in the ejido currently have no teachers. ^[5] Residents of El Pescado reported that in July, the criminal organization La Familia Michoacana attacked them with gunfire and drones from the hills. ^[6] Residents of El Pescado stated that since October of the previous year, children have had no classes because violence prevents teachers from reaching the communities. ^[7] Residents requested that Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda guarantee the right to education and send teachers to the area. ^[8]
