NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot are scheduled to conduct a spacewalk at the International Space Station on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. ^[1] The astronauts will replace a spacecraft navigational aid, install jumper cables for data-relay systems, prepare the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer's radiator for future maintenance, and replace a high-definition camera on the station's truss. ^[2] The spacewalk will be the sixth-ever all-female spacewalk, following the first one conducted by NASA astronauts Meir and Christina Koch in 2019. ^[3] The spacewalk commenced at 8:40 a.m. Eastern Time and is estimated to last approximately six and a half hours according to the NASA agency. ^[4] Jessica Meir determined that the harness on the glove heater of one of the suit gloves likely caught on her partner's shoulder, limiting her movement. ^[5] Sophie Adenot experienced difficulty moving her left arm during the spacewalk. ^[6] The spacewalk concluded at 15:29 Eastern Time (19:29 GMT), approximately twenty minutes later than scheduled, according to NASA. ^[7] This mission will be the seventh spacewalk for Jessica Meir and the third for Sophie Adenot. ^[8] Meir will work from the Canadarm2 robotic arm while Adenot moves attached to the exterior of the orbital laboratory, with flight engineer Jack Hathaway monitoring the activity from inside. ^[9] The reference light located at the front port of the Harmony module serves as a guide for spacecraft orientation during approach and docking with the station. ^[10]
