Eirik Kileng, operations leader for the Norwegian police, told the newspaper Nordlys on 2026-09-03 that police had made contact and established dialogue with a man who had barricaded himself with a weapon in a residence on the island of Dyrøy in Troms, Norway, but that no solution to the situation had yet been found. ^[1] The Norwegian police stated in their official log that the police operation at the Dyrøy residence was still ongoing shortly before they provided the update to Nordlys on 2026-09-03. ^[2] The police said that a person inside the Dyrøy residence fired a shot toward police shortly before 01:00 on 2026-09-02, during the standoff. ^[3] The police said that on 2026-09-01 at around 18:00 they had responded to a residence on Dyrøy, Troms, Norway, to carry out a welfare check, but withdrew after a person inside threatened them with what police perceived to be a weapon. ^[4] After the initial patrol withdrew, additional police forces were called, resulting in the man firing shots at the officers before barricading himself inside the house. ^[5] On Tuesday, a Norwegian police patrol accompanied by health personnel responded to a residence in Dyrøy, a municipality in northern Norway, to check on a citizen who was met by a man threatening officers with a weapon. ^[6] Police Chief Roy Nagel-Stangnes told NRK on Thursday afternoon that weapons are still inside the house and that police must take precautions based on the fact that the man fired at them during the first night. ^[7] Police have evacuated the nearest neighbors and the situation remains unchanged as of Friday evening, with the man still inside the house. ^[8]
