Maximiliano Marcel Zabala, a 29-year-old man, was assassinated on Monday night in the city of Mar del Plata by a gang that accused him of stealing a bicycle. ^[1] A friend of the victim revealed that they were returning from buying milanesas when a group of ten people stopped them in the area of Grecia and Peña, near Villa La Palangana and the Regional neighborhood. ^[2] According to the testimony of the friend, a man named Ezequiel, aged 35, was surrounded by the group which began to attack them without letting them explain anything. ^[3] The friend managed to escape by running, but Zabala received a gunshot wound to the back, according to Clarín. ^[4] According to a friend of the victim, the group attacked Zabala and his companion claiming they had stolen a bicycle, although the friend stated they had gone to buy something. ^[5] Witnesses reported that Zabala was beaten by the group before being shot in the back at the intersection of Grecia and Peña streets in Villa La Palangana. ^[6] Local media outlet 0223 identified the victim as Maximiliano Marcel Zabala and reported the incident occurred in the Regional neighborhood area. ^[7]
