A police officer (rank 경장) from Jeju Seobu Police Station was sent to detention on charges including dereliction of duty for falsely closing missing persons cases. ^[1] Jeju police arrested a corporal for falsely closing 27 missing person cases, including two that may have contributed to the deaths of the missing individuals. ^[2] According to Jeju Provincial Police Agency, officer Bu falsely closed 25 of the 298 missing person cases he handled between 2025-03-10 and 2026-07-23, and he will be additionally sent to prosecutors for these cases. ^[3] Police officer Bu of Jeju Seobu Police Station, who was arrested for falsely closing the missing person case of 37-year-old Jang as a traffic accident death, also closed the case of a missing man in his 60s without attempting a call; both were found dead by the end of July 2026. ^[4] The officer is accused of closing the case of a missing woman, identified only by her surname Jang, in May without confirming her safety, and her body was found on the island on Aug. 24. ^[5] The officer was referred to prosecutors on charges including dereliction of duty and forgery. ^[6] In his statement to investigators, officer Bu of Jeju Seobu Police Station said he did not pay much attention to missing adult cases because most ordinary adults return home, and he closed the cases to avoid the burden of transferring unresolved cases to the next shift. ^[7] The police officer from Jeju Seobu Police Station was moved after a warrant review at the Jeju District Court on the 25th. ^[8]
