A 52-year-old woman died three days after undergoing a bichectomy at a clinic in the Villa Mayor Antigua neighborhood of Antonio Nariño, Bogotá, Colombia. ^[1] The Barranquilla mayor's office launched a mental health strategy and preventive action plan for September, October, November, and December. ^[2] Health authorities sealed the clinic after confirming it did not have permits to perform cosmetic surgical interventions. ^[3] The clinic was registered in the Special Registry of Health Service Providers (Reas) since March 22, 2024, but its registration corresponded to a social object that did not include the provision of health services. ^[4] The establishment was authorized to offer external consultation services in General Medicine, Dermatology, and Psychology, but the authorization did not include the performance of plastic surgeries. ^[5] Helda Mendoza, Director of the Women's Office, Equidad and Gender, announced activities focused on preventing violence against women in the southwest and metropolitan areas. ^[6] Stephanie Araujo, the District Health Secretary, stated that the administration is launching the BREE strategy to reinforce inspection, surveillance, and control actions. ^[7] The mental health program includes over 50 psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers organized in shifts to operate day and night. ^[8]
